The Brief
This project presented a unique challenge: create a fully functional sustainable drainage system (SuDS) that would serve not just the new residential development, but also manage rainwater runoff from neighbouring football pitches and residential properties in Borough Green. Planning stipulations required the drainage pond to be operational before the main house construction could commence.
The brief called for an environmentally sound solution that would handle significant water volumes during heavy rainfall whilst blending naturally into the rural landscape. The pond needed to meet strict environmental regulations and provide long-term, maintenance-friendly drainage infrastructure for the wider community.
Our Approach
Our groundwork team approached this specialist drainage project with careful planning and precision execution. Working closely with environmental consultants and drainage engineers, we designed a sustainable drainage pond that would serve the community for decades to come.
The construction began with extensive excavation work, carefully shaping the pond to exact specifications to ensure proper water flow and storage capacity. We then installed a complete clay lining system – a traditional, environmentally friendly method that creates a natural waterproof barrier whilst supporting local wildlife and plant growth.
The clay lining was covered with a carefully graded shingle layer, providing structural stability, erosion protection, and a natural aesthetic that complements the Kent countryside. Our team installed overflow systems, access points, and planting zones to create a fully functional SuDS that manages water naturally whilst enhancing local biodiversity.
This project showcases our expertise in specialist groundwork and our commitment to sustainable building practices that benefit entire communities.
