Professional Specialist Brickwork Services in Kent
Brickwork is both a craft and an art, requiring skill, precision, and an eye for detail that comes only with years of experience. Carey Brothers & Sons has built its reputation on exceptional brickwork across Kent and the Southeast, from traditional period properties to contemporary new builds. Our specialist brickwork division, led by Adam Stannard, delivers masonry work of the highest calibre.
We specialise in all aspects of brickwork and masonry – facing brickwork for new builds and extensions, structural blockwork, decorative features including arches and corbelling, brick repairs and repointing, garden walls, and chimneys. Our bricklayers understand traditional and modern techniques, from Flemish bond and English bond to contemporary stretcher bond and specialist decorative patterns. We're experienced in matching existing brickwork on heritage properties, sourcing appropriate bricks and using traditional lime mortars where required. For new builds, we work with a wide range of facing bricks and create stunning feature walls that enhance architectural design.
Quality brickwork requires careful planning and meticulous execution. We begin by selecting appropriate bricks to match your design vision and existing building (where applicable), considering colour, texture, size, and weathering characteristics. Our bricklayers set out accurately, ensuring perfect perpendiculars, level courses, and clean joints. We work in all weathers where appropriate, protecting brickwork from frost and rain to prevent damage. Throughout the build, we maintain consistent joint widths, clean pointing, and proper bonding patterns. All our brickwork complies with British Standards and building regulations. We take pride in our workmanship – when you choose Carey Brothers, you're choosing brickwork built to last generations.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Get answers to common questions about our specialist brickwork services in Kent
1What types of brickwork do you specialise in?
We specialise in all aspects of brickwork: facing brickwork for new builds and extensions, structural blockwork, decorative brickwork features (arches, corbelling, soldier courses), brick repairs and repointing, garden walls, and chimneys. Our team has expertise in both traditional and contemporary brick bonds and techniques.
2How do you match existing brickwork?
Matching existing brickwork requires careful brick selection and skilled laying. We source bricks to match size, colour, and texture, then use appropriate mortar colour and joint styles. For older properties, we can source reclaimed bricks. Our experienced bricklayers understand weathering and laying techniques to achieve seamless integration with existing work.
3What's the difference between facing brick and common brick?
Facing bricks are high-quality bricks designed to be visible, offering attractive appearance and weather resistance. They cost £400-£800 per thousand. Common bricks (also called engineering bricks) are used for structural work that will be rendered or hidden, costing £300-£400 per thousand. We use facing bricks for all visible work and appropriate commons for concealed structural work.
4How long does brickwork take?
An experienced bricklayer lays approximately 500-600 bricks per day in ideal conditions. A typical single-storey extension (4 walls, 2.4m high) requires about 4,000-5,000 bricks and takes 8-10 working days. Weather significantly affects bricklaying - we cannot lay bricks in freezing conditions or heavy rain. We provide specific timelines during quotation.
5What warranty do you provide for brickwork?
We guarantee all our brickwork for 12 months, covering workmanship and materials. This includes protection against defects in mortar joints, water penetration, and cracking. Provided the work is properly maintained, our brickwork will last the lifetime of the building. We use only quality materials from reputable manufacturers.
